COSMIC webinar: „Standardize tumor classification and variant annotation for reproducible cohort building with COSMIC“, March 19, 2026

Tumor classification, histology subtyping and variant annotation are often treated as background tasks. But without rigorous standardization, cohort building becomes subjective, comparisons break down and rare cancer insights are lost.

Join this free expert webinar on March 19, 2026 at 5 p.m. CET, where you’ll get an in-depth look at how the Catalogue Of Somatic Mutations In Cancer (COSMIC) enables:

  • Precise tumor classification mapped to NCI Thesaurus and EFO
  • Controlled histology conversion for rare cancer cohort construction
  • Robust variant cross-mapping strategies for downstream reproducibility

Neue Datenbank: COSMIC (Catalogue Of Somatic Mutations In Cancer)

**English version below**

  • Organisation Type: Not-For-Profit Organisation / Institution / Academic Research Centre
  • Intended Use of COSMIC: Use For Patient Services or to Generate a Clinical Report

Members of the Medical University of Vienna now have free access to the database COSMIC (Catalogue Of Somatic Mutations In Cancer). This is the read-only version of a commercial access that is required for diagnostic purposes.

To use the database, you must register an individual account with your MedUni Vienna e-mail address. When creating the account, select the following settings:

  • Organisation Type: Not-For-Profit Organisation / Institution / Academic Research Centre
  • Intended Use of COSMIC: Use For Patient Services or to Generate a Clinical Report

Individuals who previously had a COSMIC account that no longer works (for commercial use) must create a new account.

COSMIC is published by the Wellcome Sanger Institute and contains information on somatic mutations, including over 29 million genome mutations in more than 6,800 specific types of cancer. Detailed information on the database can be found here.
