OA Publishing Agreements

Open Access Publishing in established journals

Together with the Kooperation E-Medien Österreich (KEMÖ), the Medical University of Vienna has established contractual agreements with various publishers, making it possible for MedUni Vienna members to publish their research free of charge or with reduced APCs in renowned journals via Open Access publishing.

Conditions: the corresponding author has to provide their MedUni Vienna email address as well as citing the Medical University of Vienna as their affiliation.

Open-Access-Publishing Agreement: American Chemical Society (ACS)

Authors affiliated with the Medical University of Vienna can publish Open Access without any additional charges in approximately 60 ACS journals under an Open Access publishing agreement. Please find the agreement details here:

Note: ACS Central Science (fully open access) is not included in the agreement. ACS Omega and the ACS Au journals, however, are covered by the agreement.

Author Workflow

Articles have to be submitted using the institutional e-mail address (@meduniwien.ac.at) so the publisher can recognise eligible authors. The affiliation of the "corresponding author" to the Medical University of Vienna will be checked by the Team Open Access.

Author workflow

The acceptance email contains instructions to make the article available Open Access. Depending on the journal signing an appropriate Creative Commons licence takes place via a PDF form ("License-to-Publish", to be returned to the publisher) or an online form. The affiliation of the "corresponding author" to the Medical University of Vienna on the date of acceptance will be checked by the Open Access Office.

Author Workflow

The Company of Biologists uses the Copyright Clearance Center (CCC) web interface to administer the agreement. After acceptance, the "corresponding author" chooses the Open Access option and follows the steps on the web interface as directed. A one-time registration may be required. The affiliation of the "corresponding author" to the Medical University of Vienna will be checked by the Team Open Access.

Author Workflow

After acceptance, the "corresponding author" has to select "Medical University of Vienna" as their organisation in step 1 using the mouse (other spellings will prevent correct recognition) and "Publish Open Access" in step 4. The affiliation of the "corresponding author" to the Medical University of Vienna will be checked by the Team Open Access .

IOP determines eligibility on the basis of submission metadata and notifies eligible authors of the possibility to publish OA at no cost during the publication process. The affiliation of the "corresponding author" to the Medical University of Vienna will be checked by the Team Open Access.

When submitting the manuscript, select the Medical University of Vienna from the list stored in the system. During the production process, Karger and the Medical University of Vienna will verify your affiliation with the university. Therefore, please use only your e-mail address of the Medical University of Vienna as corresponding author. No further steps are required to apply for publication funding.
